Kay Cook, the owner of the restaurant K’Jun Shack in New Caney, Texas has decided to use her Thanksgiving to help those that are less fortunate. The restaurant usually serves Cajun style foods, such as crawfish, but on Thanksgiving Day Cook invites local residents to come down to her restaurant for some turkey with all of the fixings. Cook says that she has done this for five years now, and continues to do it because there is a need for it.
The first year, the restaurant took its Thanksgiving Day event to Bull Sallas Park where they were able to serve 500 people. This year, the event will take place at the restaurant, which is not as large. Cook says that she will make accommodations to have the food delivered if people sign up in advance. If people want to come into the restaurant, Cook says they will do what they can to serve as many people as they can with the available space.
Giving Back to Show Thankfulness
When asked why she takes it upon herself to hold the Thanksgiving Day event, Cook replied “God has blessed me with my business and this is my way of giving back.” She elaborates that she loves cooking, and loves helping people. Cook says it is her dream to one day be able to go to impoverished areas and places that have been affected by disasters and hand out food. Supplying local residents in need is her way of starting to realize that dream.
